How to Carve a Pumpkin Craft

This “How to Carve a Pumpkin” craft is a fun way for kids to learn about sequencing while also getting into the Halloween spirit. It starts off with a simple coloring activity where kids can decorate their own pumpkin and lid. After that, they cut out the lid, pumpkin shape, and a writing strip. The strip is used to write out their own step-by-step instructions for carving a pumpkin. Once that’s done, they paste the lid at the top and the pumpkin at the bottom, folding the strip in between so it tucks neatly underneath the lid. When you lift the lid, the instructions unfold like a little surprise.

It’s a great mix of writing, cutting, pasting, and creativity. This is a good fit for classrooms, homeschool activities, or just something fun to do at home. It works well for kids who are learning about writing in sequence or practicing how-to instructions.

Sample writing for the strip:

  1. First, cut the top off the pumpkin.
  2. Next, scoop out the seeds with a spoon.
  3. Then, draw and cut out the face.
  4. Finally, put in a light.
